Hearing Gods Voice
“Dear sweet friend,
Thank you for the thoughtful batch of cookies. We don’t always know what a simple gesture in faith can mean to others, but you should know that that your cookies came at just the right time. Your cookies filled two hungry tummies when dinner was late. They inspired a moment of rest with a cup of coffee when tiredness and overwhelm threatened. And they provided joy and hope with a cup of tea before my husband went to visit his dad in hospital. Thank you for listening to that soft whisper in your heart. Thank you for your faithfulness in listening to His promptings. This week your small act of kindness felt like a heavenly hug from the Father. “
Hearing Gods Voice Over the Chaos
Are you desperate to hear the voice of God? Can you hear him over the school run, the housework, the homework?
Sometimes God’s voice is thundering and loud, however mostly his voice is gentle. A whisper. A small nudging in your heart.
I know that its hard to be still. Its hard to create that sacred space to be able to hear from God, but hear me when I say that it is just so. completely. worth it.
The way that I create space to hear from God is to spend a quiet moment with Him every morning. Through spending time in His word, He speaks directly to my heart. He highlights truths, reveals promises and gently corrects my wayward heart. This isn’t something I need to earn. Its a gift that He freely gives through my relationship with Jesus Christ.
He speaks to me when I call on Him.
In Jeremiah 33:3 Gods word says ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
He also speaks to me in other ways.
Sometimes it’s in the quiet moments before I drift off to sleep, whilst I’m hanging up the laundry, or through the prayers of my little ones before I kiss them goodnight. He is always there, always nudging, always prompting. If we take a moment to be still we will hear Him. He longs to be a part of our lives. To speak to us. To spend time with us.
The more we practice hearing Gods voice the easier it will be to recognize it. John 10:27-28 says:
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
When I think I hear Gods voice I’ve learnt to stop and take a moment. To pray. Not a grand, verbose prayer, but a simple “Im listening Lord”.
