Self care ideas that cost virtually nothing!
As a momma of two busy, wonderful little ones, wife of one amazing husband and friend to many incredible women, life can get pretty wild! And apart from carving out some sacred space (see here) to anchor my day and spend time with the Lord, sometimes I need to take moments here and there to re-energise and keep fresh. A little self care goes a long way! It helps me be a better wife, mom and friend to the people in my life who count on me.
Is it selfish? This seems to be a huge question out there in blogging-land. Well… I guess you could answer that with a little self-reflection:
1. Is it excessive?
Are you spending more time in a bubble bath than you are caring for your family? Probably not. Is your family going without so that you can have? I hope not. Everything in moderation.
2. Do you feel the need to justify it?
Do you get angry, annoyed or tearful when your self-care habits are questioned? There is nothing wrong with caring for your body and mind. But when it becomes an idol in your life that begs to be defended, then maybe you need to bring it before the Lord.
3. Is it an escape?
We all need some “me time”. There’s nothing wrong with needing to be alone. But if you are using it to escape from your life, your husband and children, then it may be time to self-reflect and question why. What measures do you need to take in your life to correct this perspective. What healthy actions do you need to employ.
Here are some self-care options I use to help refresh and re-energize during my day:
