Recently I came across a blog post on salvation. One of those ‘how do you know if you are truly saved’ kind of posts. And to be honest it left me feeling a little alarmed. Yes, it highlighted all the scripture regarding salvation and gave its ‘big 3’ (prayer, bible reading and belief) to salvation, but if I was truly worried about the eternal state of my soul I would be left feeling confused and shaken in my faith.
So here is what was missing. This is what you need to know.
- God cannot lie.
Gods word is infallible. The Bible says that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13) Jesus himself said that if you come to him He will not cast you out. (John 6:37). And so, if you have committed your life to Him (Jesus) and you come to him with genuine repentance, you can live in the confidence and assurance that you are saved. We can believe this because He said it. Its as simple as that.
2. It is finished.
When Jesus died on the cross he carried our sin and took on our own punishment. Our entire debt has been paid in full. It doesn’t matter how huge and dirty our sin is, because Jesus died for all our sins; past, present and future. His grace is greater than our sin. When Jesus said, “it is finished”(John 19:28-30), we can believe Him. Because God’s word is infallible. It doesn’t lie.
3. You’re not alone.
If you’re doubting your salvation or faith I can tell you that you’re not alone. At some point every believer doubts their salvation. Luckily our lack of belief or faith does not change the certainty of God’s word and promises. And so I encourage you to grow your faith and belief through studying the word of God yourself. As you seek out the scriptures on your own I pray that God will reveal His truths and promises to you in a very personal way.
